The required elements of good Girl Scout program are designed on the following:
- Experiences are founded on the Promise and Law
- Appreciation of diversity
- Girl planning
- Girl/Adult partnership
- Areas of Interest
Activities support the four program goals:
- Develop to their full individual potential
- Relate to others with increasing understanding, skill and respect
- Develop values to guide their actions and to provide the foundation for sound decision making
- Contribute to the improvement of society through the use of their abilities and leadership skills by working in cooperation with others
Girl Scout activities should be fun and relevant to today's world; suit the mental, physical, social and emotional development of the girls; help them increase their skills and knowledge; provide opportunities for them to plan and assume responsibilities; complement rather than duplicate other learning experiences, and reveal the joy of giving of oneself. Today's Girl Scouts can choose from a wide variety of activities- from animals to art appreciation or cooking to computers.
Council-Wide Events Council-wide events are planned and organized by the Council with help from volunteers. All registered Girl Scouts are invited to participate. Some program events are age level specific and others are open to girls of all ages. Event registration forms are available in monthly takeouts or by contacting the Council Office. Please refer to the calendar of events for upcoming Council events.
GirlSports Girl Scouts of the USA has a national initiative to involve more girls in sports. Each year, numerous sports clinics, sports days and special interest groups provide girls the opportunity to expand their skills and knowledge of sports. Other topics such as nutrition, general health and fitness sessions and careers in sports are presented. For more information about GirlSports, please contact Celeste.
destinations Older Girl Scouts have exciting opportunities for adventure! They can learn to scuba dive, play volleyball or go white-water river rafting. They can sharpen business skills, or travel to the mountains, beaches, to Alaska or Mexico. From sports and travel to leadership institutes, Girl Scouts has it all! Guest teachers provide program materials that encourage students to achieve their best in life. Educators, too, can benefit from the Girl Scouting in the School Day as they use Girl Scout resources to enhance curriculum. For more information, please contact Dawn.
