Awards by Service Unit

The following awards are recognitions for volunteers who have provided service at the local or Service Unit level.  The awards are presented at a Service Unit event, usually by the nominators.

Outstanding Volunteer & Outstanding Leader
Nomination Procedure:  An individual or group familiar with the candidate’s performance submits a Nomination Form to the Service Unit recognitions task group.  The nomination outlines the candidate’s accomplishments and how the service performed has benefited girls.

Approval: 
The Service Unit recognitions task group reviews the information, approves or denies the nomination, and notifies the nominator(s) and Membership Executive.  The Service Unit Manager submits the approved nomination form when they purchase the pin at the Girl Scout Store. 

Outstanding Volunteer

Recognizes an adult in a position other than leader or in addition to leader whose service benefits a Service Unit in a way that is beyond the expectations for the position.

Form of Recognition: 
A pin depicting a white chain and gold trefoil against a red background. 

Criteria for selection:

  • The candidate is a registered Girl Scout adult.
  • The candidate has completed appropriate training, and demonstrates competence in girl-adult partnership, communication, membership development, pluralism, and program delivery.
  • The candidate has performed at a level that exceeds the expectations of the position as outlined in the job description or agreement. 

Potential candidates for the Outstanding Volunteer Award could be the following:
A person who has significantly increased Girl Scouting’s positive image within a community through a wide variety of methods and media.
An event director who has managed several successful events with increased use of girl planning and involvement.

Each Service Unit may award 2 Outstanding Volunteer Awards each year.

Outstanding Leader

Recognizes troop/group leaders, assistant troop/group leaders, or group coordinators whose performance in working with girls is so outstanding that it merits recognition by the Service Unit.

Form of Recognition:
A round Outstanding Leader Award pin with a torch displayed inside a shield against a yellow background. 

Criteria for selection:

  • The candidate is a registered Girl Scout adult.
  • The candidate has completed appropriate training, and demonstrates competence in girl-adult partnership, communication, membership development, pluralism, and program delivery.
  • The candidate’s work with girls has exceeded the expectation for the position as outlined in the position description or agreement.

Potential candidates for the Outstanding Leader Award could be the following:
The assistant troop leader who recruits and retains an active troop committee that results in increased program opportunities for girls in the troop.
The group leader whose creative activities attract increasing numbers of girls to an after school program.
The troop leader who develops a series of activities that gives girls the opportunity to interact with people from different cultures in the community.

Each Service Unit may award 2 Outstanding Leader Awards each year.
 
Troop Leader Award

This Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma Award recognizes leaders (registered with position code 01) who fulfill Troop Leader Agreement, which contains commitments to quality leadership and troop program.

Form of recognition: A different charm is awarded each year.

* For volunteers who were collecting the series of Angel pins from Magic Empire Council, your Service Unit Manager may approve you to purchase the next appropriate pin from the Girl Scout Store in addition to receiving the charm for the year.  Quantities will be limited and will not be reordered when the supply runs out.

Criteria for selection:

  • The candidate is a registered Girl Scout adult.
  • The candidate has fulfilled all terms of the Troop Leader Agreement.
  • The candidate demonstrates competence in girl-adult partnership, communication, membership development, pluralism, and program delivery.

Approval: 
The Service Unit Manager and /or Service Unit recognitions task group confirms the troop leader has fulfilled all aspects of the Troop Leader Agreement.
The Service Unit Manager submits a listing all award recipients to the Director of Volunteer Services.
