Q: How much does training cost? A: We strive to offer trainings at little or no cost to our volunteers whenever possible. Some courses require certification through outside groups or materials that must be covered by course fees. These fees are listed in the course description of each training. No leader should be prevented from attending training due to financial restrictions. Financial assistance is available for many courses. Please address any special needs with the Training Registrar.
Q: What should I bring / wear to training? A: Items that should be brought to each training include note taking materials, age level handbook, Training Record Card, and lunch or dinner if needed. Other requirements may be listed in the course descriptions found in this catalog. Trainings are held in a casual atmosphere. You are invited to wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move around, as several courses include activities. Dress for the weather for all outdoor trainings.
Q: How do I know where my training will be held and how to get there? A: We list the city where each training will be held in the catalog. Most trainings are held at our Council offices, but occasionally due to conflicts we need to arrange a training at an alternative location. When you receive your confirmation phone call a few days before the training it will confirm the exact location and address of your training. You may also request directions to the training facility when you register.
Q: I am a new Brownie leader. Should I plan to take Beginning Troop Leadership, Brownie Program Level Training, Beyond the Meeting and Troop Camper Training this year? A: Just as we teach progression in girl activities, so it is true with adult training as well. Register for and attend the Beginning Troop Leadership Course. Start meeting with your girls and get your troop organized. Attend Program Level Training within three months. Look at the plans your girls have made for the rest of the year. If they include field trips or overnights, sign up to attend Beyond the Meeting. A first year Brownie troop is often not ready to plan, coordinate and carry out an overnight camping trip, and you may decide to take Troop Camper Training next year.
Q: I have a parent who volunteered to be our Troop Camper. Does she have to take Beginning Troop Leadership, Beyond the Meeting and the Program Level Training first? A: Beyond the Meeting and Program Level Training are pre-requisites for the Troop Camper training. The information covered in these two classes helps a Troop Camper plan activities for camping trips and work with girls. However in some instances it may be acceptable to waive these pre-requisites. This will be determined on a case-by-case basis by the Training Department. Contact them directly if you wish to request a waiver.
Q: Can I bring my children with me to training? A: Please DO NOT bring your children with you; childcare is not available. This is for the safety of your children and the consideration of those in attendance.
Q: Where do I find information regarding GSEOK online safety guidelines? A: You may look at our General Guidelines or visit http://www.coppa.org/ for National Guidelines.
Q: Who should I talk to if I have more questions? A: Contact the Training Registrar at 918-749-2551. |
