Do you love to hang out with your friends and have a great time?  Girl Scouts is a great place to do just that!  In Girl Scouting YOU plan your own adventure and make it happen!

We’re not your grandma’s Girl Scout Troop…today’s Girl Scouts are traveling, rock climbing, exploring careers in math, science and technology, and much more!  Younger Girl Scouts get to learn about everything from cultures around the world to dance, drama and science!  Teen Girl Scouts earn community service hours, have scholarship opportunities, and travel all over the state, country, and world!

There is truly something for everyone in Girl Scouts.  We like to tell girls in Girl Scouts…it’s your life, lead it!

There are different levels to join:

  • Girl Scout Daisy - Grades K-1
  • Girl Scout Brownie - Grades 2-3
  • Girl Scout Junior - Grades 4-5
  • Girl Scout Cadette - Grades 6-8
  • Girl Scout Senior - Grades 9-10
  • Girl Scout Ambassador - Grades 11-12

The Council staff work to develop and deliver excellent programs for girls of all ages and levels - including Outreach, Home School and much more!

There are different ways to join Girl Scouts:

Girls can participate in the Girl Scout program in several ways:

Troops

The most popular way for girls to participate is in a Girl Scout troop.  Approximately 78% of our membership participates in Girl Scouting through a troop.  The timeless Girl Scout troop is a great way for girls to form a community and establish a consistent environment.  Many times, girls appreciate this stable environment because other areas of their lives may not be as stable.

Individual Girl Scouts

Not every girl has the opportunity to participate in a Girl Scout troop and for some girls, troop membership just doesn’t fit with their busy schedule – especially when you start thinking about how busy a girl can be when you factor in school, church activities, part time jobs and other events.  Sometimes barriers exist for girls to participate in a troop – such as living in a rural area or more often than not there isn’t a volunteer in the area who is willing to establish and lead a troop.  Individual Girl Scouts can work at their own pace, will have a Service Unit "advisor" to consult with, and be part of all Council events.

Campers

Another way that the program is delivered in Girl Scouting is through camp.  More than 16,595 girls from our Council participate in outdoor program opportunities that help them grow strong in our Council’s five program centers.  Camp gives girls a chance to step out of their comfort zone and be courageous, to experience things for the first time.

Outreach

Our Outreach efforts are innovative program opportunities that help our Council move toward the goal of reaching every girl everywhere.  Our Outreach department is a group of fun and committed staff that literally goes door to door to recruit girls to be Girl Scouts.  These are girls who live in neighborhoods that are ridden with crime, poverty and violence.  Through Girl Scouting they learn conflict resolution, a sense of belonging, establish friendships and have good role models.  We provide transportation, food, uniforms and badges, as well as programs and trips.  These girls never thought Girl Scouting could be possible for them – we make it a reality.  Some specific outreach efforts include Public Housing, Girl Scouting in the Day, Rural Troops and Project MEND.

Older Girl Scouts

Girl Scouting for Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors takes on a whole new dimension and lets you be the one to take the lead. You can:

  • participate in "destinations" - and travel across the country or around the world.
  • take on a challenging backpacking, canoeing, rafting or cycling adventure.
  • join in on make-up, fashion and fitness seminars.
  • exchange ideas about drug awareness, peer pressure and careers with other teenage girls and adults.

Girl Scouts at all levels, may participate in Girl Scout-sponsored activities either with their troop/group or individually.
